Malleable Iron Screw-On Pipe Brackets The Brackets That Actually Hold
Right, let's talk about something that actually matters when you're knee-deep in a pipe installation - brackets that won't let you down.
After fitting pipes for over 15 years, I can tell you that malleable iron screw-on brackets are the unsung heroes of any decent pipework job. These aren't your flimsy hardware store specials that bend when you look at them wrong.
First off, malleable iron. Not cast iron, not pressed steel - malleable. There's a difference, and it matters when you're supporting a 4-inch water main that's going to be there for the next 30 years. The malleability means they can take a knock without cracking like cast iron would.
We keep everything from dinky 1/4" brackets for those fiddly gas lines right up to the beefy 4" ones. Here's what moves fastest from our Glasgow warehouse:
Look, the product specs say "quick and easy screw-on fixing" - and they're not wrong. But here's what they don't mention:
Pre-drill your holes. Especially in old brickwork. Trust me on this one. Nothing worse than a bracket that's gone in wonky because you tried to rush it.
Space them properly. Copper pipes? Every 1.5 meters horizontally. Plastic? Every meter. Steel can go 2 meters between brackets if it's a straight run. Get this wrong and you'll have sagging pipes in 6 months.
The back plate trick. On uneven walls (and let's face it, which walls aren't?), use our galvanised back plates. Makes life so much easier and gives a proper professional finish.
I've used these everywhere from Victorian tenements in Edinburgh to brand new builds in Manchester. They're particularly brilliant for:
"Can I use these with plastic pipes?" Absolutely. Just don't overtighten - plastic pipes don't need gorilla strength, just firm support.
"Will they rust?" Eventually, yes. We're talking years though, not months. For outdoor use, hit them with some anti-rust paint. Indoor use? They'll outlast you.
"Why not just use clips?" Clips are fine for light duty. But when you're supporting proper weight, or need pipes that won't move when someone knocks them, brackets are the only way to go.
These aren't the cheapest brackets you can buy. But they're the ones I reach for when I'm doing a job that needs to last. When a callback costs you time, money, and reputation, spending a few quid extra on proper brackets suddenly seems like good sense.
We keep thousands in stock because contractors keep coming back for them. Same-day dispatch if you order before 3pm, and if you're local to Glasgow, just swing by and collect.
Pro tip: Order a range of sizes. Nothing worse than being on site at 4pm and realizing you need a 1¼" bracket when all you've got is 1".
Been supplying these brackets for 12 years now. If you've got questions about pipe supports, brackets, or anything else plumbing-related, drop us a line. We're here 7am-5pm weekdays, and yes, we actually answer the phone.
